Apparently,

I won't hear a single negative word spoken about Bad_Girl or Xmarksbrakdownx.

That's because I am deaf.

So I come to L P S G to read them instead.

Do Birds Stay Together for Life?
apparently
90 percent of bird species are monogamous.
Many bird species do mate for life (or at least until one bird in the pair
dies), such as bald eagles, swans, albatrosses and puffins. However, the
majority of bird species will only be monogamous for a single breeding
season and will then each go their own way

How Much Food Is Wasted?
apparently
Roughly half of all food produced in the world every year ends up going to
waste.
Considering that 1 in 9 people on earth do not have enough food for a
healthy life as of 2014, food should be used wisely. However, roughly half
of all food is wasted annually in the world.

Ladybugs secrete a fluid from their joints to give themselves a foul taste
to protect themselves from predators.

Ladybugs protect themselves by emitting a foul-tasting fluid from their leg
joints. This is intended to signal to predators that the insects will not
be appealing to consume. Ladybugs are known for their bright red and dotted
appearance, but their distinctive coloring is also another means of
protecting themselves from predators, who see red hues and dark spots as
indicators of a bitter taste or even poison. If ladybugs are still
threatened, they may fold their legs up and secrete a minimal amount of
blood, a process known as reflex bleeding, to fake being dead in the hopes
of getting predators to move on.
That's why I don't eat ladybugs

Khalil Gibran

Discuss
Gibran was a Lebanese poet and novelist whose works, written in both English and Arabic, fuse elements of Eastern and Western mysticism. His best-known work isThe Prophet, a collection of 26 inspirational prose poems. Published in 1923, it attracted only modest attention during the author's life but later attained cult status among American youth for several generations, including during the 1960s counterculture movement. What lyric did the Beatles adapt from one of Gibran's texts?

Where Do Polar Bears Live?

APPARENTLY momma poppa and baby live .. read on ..

About 60 percent of all polar bears live in Canada.

Polar bears are found only in the Arctic Circle, and populations are
located in Alaska, Greenland, Norway and Russia. However, 60% of polar
bears live in Canadian Territory. Polar bears need access to sea ice in
order to hunt seals, which are their preferred prey. Their habitat,
therefore, is restricted by the need to access the ocean and they may
travel thousands of miles each year in order to find the right kind of sea
ice for hunting.

Impressive Fruit

DECEMBER 4, 2015

196309142561.jpeg

Pineapples, pictured above (and yes, that’s how they actually grow), are indigenous to South America and were domesticated and spread throughout the tropical areas of the Americas well before Europeans landed in the New World. When Christopher Columbus was first introduced to the fruit, he apparently really liked it, because he brought some back with him in 1493. By the 1600s, knowledge of pineapples spread to England, where they became quite popular — and, because you can’t easily grow pineapples in the hardly-tropical climate of the British Isles, quite rare.

How Many Words Are Tweeted Each Day?

apparently

Approximately 3 billion words are tweeted each day -- enough to fill 5,300
copies of Ayn Rand's novel "Atlas Shrugged."

According to Twitter, around 500 million tweets were sent each day in
August 2015. The average tweet has been estimated to be between 40 and 60
characters in length, even though Twitter allows for a maximum of 140
characters. Assuming that the average tweet contains six words, that would
mean that about 3 billion words are sent out on Twitter every day --
equivalent to more than 5,300 copies of Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged.

How Panama United Great Britain

DECEMBER 14, 2015

Scotland and England (and Wales, too, but that’s another story) share the island typically known as Great Britain. Together, with Northern Ireland, the three are now the United Kingdom, making a small but significant part of the world very confusing, with lots of names for what many think are the same place. (That, too, is another story; thankfully, CGP Grey explains all those differences and more in a YouTube video, here, which you should take five minutes to watch.) But before Great Britain could join the United Kingdom, Scotland and England had to unite under one government — the two weren’t always part of the same nation.

How Much Fat Is in the Chicken We Eat?

apparently

Today, there's about 266% more fat - and only two-thirds of the protein -
in a piece of chicken than there was in 1971.
Chicken is generally considered to be a good source of lean protein and has
been recommended by medical professionals as a healthier, lower-fat
alternative to beef. However, chicken is not the health food it used to be.
Some estimates say that the chicken we eat today contains up to 266% more
fat than the chicken we ate in the 1970s. Today's chicken also has
one-third less protein content.

How Many Food Tasters Did Hitler Have during WWII?

apparently

Hitler had 15 food tasters, all young women, who checked his food in case
the meals were poisoned.

Margot Wölk ate pretty well during World War II. While the rest of Nazi
Germany struggled to find food, or even a decent cup of coffee, Wölk ate
dishes such as white asparagus – peeled, steamed and served with a
delicious butter sauce, as Germans traditionally like it. As one of Adolf
Hitler's 15 food testers, she was forced to taste everything the paranoid
Führer was going to eat.

German chocolate cake was probably named after

apparently

Samuel German, the creator

of German’s Sweet Chocolate.
Most chocolate lovers will readily agree that German chocolate cake is one
of the best chocolate cake recipes in existence. However, the origins of
the cake aren't so certain. A recipe for "Novel chocolate cake" that is
very similar to what we now call "German chocolate cake" appeared in
Trenton, New Jersey, in 1905. It was later called German chocolate cake,
with many food historians attributing the name to Sam German, who invented
a sweet baking chocolate for Baker's Chocolate Company.

How Often Is a New Prison Built in the United States?

apparently

Between 1990 and 2005, the United States opened a new correctional facility
roughly once every 10 days.
Starting in the 1970s, US lawmakers began toughening up on felonies in an
attempt to reduce drug-related and violent offenses. They imposed mandatory
minimum sentences, banned early releases, and created new penalties for
many crimes. This crackdown on crime resulted in an increase in the number
of imprisoned offenders and a need for facilities in which to house them.
According to statistics from 1990 to 2005, a new state or federal
correctional facility was built in the United States once every 10 days,
amounting to around 544 new prisons over 15 years.
