The link in the OP is an perfect example of the circular self masturbatory malarky that passes for 'logic' in the minds of people who believe fairy tales are real.

Apply the exact same argument in reverse... "saying you are a 'christian' doesn't mean you actually ARE one..."

Saying God exists doesn't actually make God exist, either.

Like all defenses of religion... it applied a standard to non-belief that it refuses to apply to belief.

Believers need to grow up and put away childish things.... like Santa Claus and Magical Daddies in the sky who Love you, but are perfectly willing to see you burn in hellfire.

It astonishes me how desperately people cling to stories that they secretly suspect to be poppycock.
there is No Faith without doubt, because there is no proof of faith.

just ask Mother Teresa.

Yet you arrive here the same as every other living thing. With every breath we take we breathe in our past, the death of billions upon billions past in the captured atmosphere in which we live. Dejavu? Memories, fragments from this time? What happens when you dream, are they fragments from this time, or past, or future? Why when we awake are those dreams not clear to us, why, when we try to remember they become more distant? Why do we have 2 consciences Phil?

Dreams are pretty well understood.
Your experience of reality is an illusion created by the brain based on nothing but nerve impulses it receives from sensory organs that only react to a tiny fraction of the actual events going on.

Understanding this means understanding that your brain has the capability, all on its own, of creating the experience of reality, even without external stimuli.

Suffer a little oxygen or sensory deprivation, and discover that your brain can hallucinate a reality that feels just as real, even when that hallucination makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

And when we wake, our dreams fade because they clearly are transient and unrelated to actual reality... they have no survival value because they do not fit into a causal reality. We can remember them better if, while awake, we re-live them and make them into a narrative that we imagine has meaning...
but otherwise, your brain doesn't bother encoding valuable memory space with memories of events which do not actually fit into your brains working model of waking reality.

Don't get me wrong... my friends and family all see me as a very spiritual human being. There is something transcendently amazing about consciousness and being, itself.... but that doesn't imply any form of supernatural power or agency.

Children today are told the stories that helped a bronze age society make sense of a world they lacked the tools to comprehend.

But those stories are as obsolete as outhouses.

We have better tools for comprehending and for eliciting wonder at the nature of being than imagining a magical daddy who is both loving and stern.

Shaking rattles has no effect on viruses, parasites, nor bacteria.

It is astonishing to be self aware as a perceiving consciousness.
And I can perceive the foolishness of pretending that there are supernatural forces that leave no discernible trace on reality.

If prayer HAD any effect... the effect would be measurable.
And if it isn't measurable, then it has no effect.

Believing doesn't make it so.
Inventing a narrative is just making up a story.

God is no more real than is James Bond.

Actually, if you train yourself you can very well remember almost every single one of your dreams and even become lucid and control the entire dream. Kappa

I read your first sentence..."Dreams are pretty well understood". Bullshit Phil. I dream of flying, in colour over places and things you would never understand. Stop being so long winded and say what you need to in as few words as possible.

I love & hate how pretty much every believer (I'm guessing you are, correct me if I'm wrong) is easily categorizable as someone who simply pushes scientific evidence aside just because it's "bullshit" and that they dream of flying in... what?

If you actually spent just a tiny little bit of time researching before opening your mouth, or in this case running your fingers, you'd save us the trouble of spoonfeeding you everything.

Tell me why I dream, tell me why I dream in a subconscience state and not while I am conscious? Tell me why we sometimes dream of the same things while we sleep, but not think or imagine the same things while we are awake. Tell me why original ideas are still being invented? Tell me why you and I do not think the same? Tell me.

I don't gotta tell you shit. You can very easily GOOGLE dreaming and learn all about it. Just because you can't figure something out doesn't mean other people can't. If everyone was like you, nobody would ever bother to invent/discover anything anyway. Thank Zeus for actual scientists.

Of- course you don't, because you are full of it. You have a problem with finding answers. You always have. I worry you.

Huh? You're the one asking the bazillion questions. I have a basic understanding of how dreams work, you don't so why don't you get on it?

I truly wish you would stop deflecting to the antagonistic. You have a basic understanding as you say. Because someone is on a different level of understanding to you, for some reason you find it disturbing because they do not conform to your way of thought. I have seen your behaviour in previous threads, it is always of the same theme. You are not able to accept that someone else is able to think differently to you.

Once you admit that, you may move on to a place where you are able to understand others thoughts and beliefs. Or, you can just stay where you are for the next 100 years or so.

That's not what's happening here. You are insisting that dreams are utterly and completely unexplainable and will always remain as such. That's like saying 500 years ago that lightning is simply the wrath of god manifesting on earth and it just cannot be explained. You are the one who needs to expand their understanding not me.

I think you are arguing with yourself. Truly, you have a bloody big knot in your gut. I have no argument with you. You have your beliefs. I have mine. OK.... Lightning? So, if you can answer, if lightning stops striking the planets surface, we as beings run on an electrical current, Ok? Like all living things. If that electrical current was to cease. What would happen?

Yes, ok. You have seen what I have said in the past some time ago about lightning. All of a sudden, you, bring it into conversation here. You are so predictable, you know that don't you?

I haven't read anything you have said in the past so I did not know you said anything about lightning. What does that even change?

Yeah, nice dodge.

Wh... wa,.... What?

Strike one for me, as usual, you pick on anothers beliefs and offer up none of your own. Predictable.

Can you at least what the bloody mess you meant by that lightning phrase?

I have no belief so in that sense I have nothing to "offer".

For goodness sake, please say something original.

Sigh, how about you actually have an argument for once instead of just ad hominem attacks?

Everything living, runs, lives, survives on an electrial current. You, your mind, your body, runs on what we, humans call electricity. The earth itself is struck nearly 2,000 times every second by lightning bolts. Just one of thoe bolts could power a city of a million ( Not sure ) or so for 2 years.

In your wisdom, why do you think all living things need electricity to power their mind and body, and why do you think the planet for some reason needs to have lightning bolts strike it's surface? You are considered dead by science if your brain has no electrical function. What would happen if lightning stopped striking the earth? Would it be considered as a dead planet? Find a planet with lightning, I be pretty sure you will find life.

I am not in any allegiance with any belief. These are my own, plus many more weird and way out things. I really don't care what others believe or think. Even you. Because all you seem to do is rubbish another and as you say, have nothing to offer.

You say, think and do the same things you always have. Nothing original, same old, same old.

This is not even true in the slightest.
