The Wonderland photoshoot is purposely homoerotic, and everyone involved knew what they were doing when they did it.

And why would WB go this route as part of the marketing?

They're queerbaiting and activating the shipper fanbase, the Clex crowd, etc. It's the same sort of thing you saw with Cap / Bucky and other vaguely homoerotic undertones in other franchises. And not only with two men either, it's happens with two women too at times. Even though they usually never go anywhere with it, they know it gets people talking and watching.

They want to activate the shipper crowd online and get them talking and engage that fanbase because that's just another crowd that can be excited for the movie and the franchise.

When they do these four quadrant tentpole movies, they adapt marketing strategies to appeal to as many different types of fans as they can to get them excited: they play up Krypto, the cute puppy dog, for the kids and families, the Clark and Lois romance for the women and couples, the action scenes for the men, and the homoerotic photoshoots and tension between Lex and Superman for the gays.

They want everyone to like this movie or at least talk about it, so they're hitting folks from all angles.

I am still not a fan of that costume, but David probably has the biggest bulge amongst any Superman actors. Also, curious about the context behind the line when he said "hey buddy, eyes up here". I wonder if someone's checking out his super package, lol.
