I could be wrong, but from what I've heard, he omitted one word, "us."
Spoken: "You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
Intended: "You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck us in Iraq."
A bit of difference, I would think. And it sounds to me, if that is accurate, that he was saying some shit about GWB, not about the troops serving.
By the way, I'm a decorated veteran of the USMC. Those of you ranting about what a traitor Kerry is, please fill me in on your military service. I'm not a Kerry fan, but I think he has more authority to speak about military issues than does GWB. I wanna see George's combat record. Shit, I want to see any of his military record, for that matter. It doesn't even have to be anything classified. I want to see his name on the morning reports for every day that he was "in the military." I know how the morning reports work, I used to prepare them for my unit.
Yeah. What DC said about 'more authority to speak'. It's no-brainer folks. Run it through the logic mill and it's about as basic as you guess.
Unlike DC I am a 'Kerry fan'.
I think Kerry's the genuine article and only in his willingness to cave to those who'd pressure him to travel that ill-fated middle-of-the-road do I see his real failing. I see it as his fatal flaw.
Unfortuntely such is the nature of partisan politics at present where in order to "appeal" (ugh) to a Republican audience one must muffle one's genuine stance (or at least wildly temper it) on truly key issues that effect this society. Too much of that has been done of late within the Democratic Party (Hillary Clinton) and I think it's time we separated the "men from the boys" in where we stand as Democrats (as the old oddly sexist expression goes).
Kerry's bearing is Presidential. His carriage is presidential. And when he articulates he speaks with intelligence and the calmness of conviction. He could have easily inspired this good nation. I'd have been honored to have had him represent me as a world figure.
God how I'd love to have a real Statesman back in the Oval Office...
But back to the "torpedo" as Shelby calls it.
DC's right. Two days ago in an interview with MSNBC Talk Show host Don Imus Kerry himself sets the record straight and apologizes.
Beyond that those who wish to dissuade attention from what's really in need of apology will continue to focus on a spin war of words.
