Males in the modelling world today have anew norm. A typical model, when 6 feet, should weigh 145 lbs with a 28". It seem to vary a sin 10 lbs per inch of height (6'1" is 155 lbs, etc). Lets say suicidal? I was just wondering, what are everyone's weight to height rations? I'm 210 lbs at 5'10" (I'm out of shape)...maybe we could compare modelling vs normal:
Models 6 feet = 145, 6 feet 1 inch = 155, 5'11" = 135 (these are guess-timates, the first two are confirmed, seen them in articles, last is just a guess for shorter guys...you typically don't see guys below 5'11" or 6 feet in modelling, not tht I'm in one)

Just curious, where did you read that article? I'm a fashion design student and there's really not a "norm". It varies depending on style, the model's agency, region, designers' preference, etc. For example, models for Christian Dior and Prada are generally very slim like you use as an example. However, models for houses like dsquared2 and Dolce & Gabbana are usually much more muscular. Also, there really isn't an organization that tracks all of this data because there are so many different model agencies worldwide. Not trying to start any arguments or say that there isn't often a problem, but I would simply question the reliability and the source of that information. Oh and this is my first post here, so I'm hoping I didn't step on any toes, just putting in my two cents!

Where did those come from? That Hedi Slimane comment?

It should be made aware that many European guys can fit into those specs, but for American men it's considered unhealthy.

Even though the modeling world looks for men who are at the small end of "skinny" many of them are healthy and not emaciated at all. Specific designers such as Hedi Slimane look for that "Pete Doherty" looking guy to reflect the nature of their collections. It's just a preferance and has nothing to do with the state of the average person.

We can clearly see that the majority of the average consumers and many American labels don't follow the trend of the European designers.

5'6, 155 lbs, 28" waist.

There's not a scrap of fat on me. If I dip below 150 lbs, I get sickly looking.

I'm 5'11" @ 145 and 33in waist.

The so-called "new norm" is ridiculous.

I know right, its unbelievable, anyway ur very light yourself, you really have a 33inch waist? I'm a 34 maybe goin to a 35 inch waist myself. At my thinnest (175 lbs) I was at 32 inches. Thats odd, isn't? My English essay is concentrating on this topic....A modeling agency would prolly tell you to loose weight (fat probation) totally insane...they'd want u at 28 inch waist...

The size of models is different for different jobs.
I am 6'1 and 128 pounds, I was told by an agency to gain 10-15 pounds and they would be interested. But my metabolism doesn't let that happen.

dude thats freaking thin, you want 15 pounds from me? I would like the body I had at beggining of senior year of high school, I as about 45-50 lbs lighter (can you believe it?

If you need some pictures, check out Men's Fashion and Trends on men.style.com

There's a drop down box where you can select a designer and view the entire collection from any season starting in Spring '05. If you need skinny guys, some of big ones to check would be Jil Sander, Prada, Lanvin, Dior Homme, J. Lindeberg, Hermes, or Helmut Lang, though there are many more, those are just the ones off the top of my head.

Yes, but I usually wear size 34 pants. Size 33 [when I find them] can be tight, some 34's are too loose.

that sucks almost none of my jeans fit me anymore--I've gained to much weight, and I have a busy cchedule too ROAR its so frustrating...I'm SO FAT AHAHAHAHHHHHHH anyway...
