New one by me, but I have never dug into it, either. While personally I'm pro-life, my vote is pro-choice. I don't think I should be able to tell anyone what they can/can't do anymore than I like someone telling me what I can/can't.

FWIW, I rarely consider the Old Testament in how I live my life... there's so much i the OT that I just find bizarro. I default to "Jesus says to love" and let that be that.

My only issue with Any religious beliefs is when they are forced onto other's without consent.

I completely respect any woman's choice to not get an abortion just as much as I support other women's choice to have it done.

While, as a male, I've casually leaned towards one's right to choose most of my life, it wasn't till about maybe 25 years ago, when the company I worked for at the time assigned me to do security at a women's clinic at about the same time Operation Rescue and it's leader, domestic terrorist Randall Terry, were at their height of protesting, that really put me square in the pro-choice camp.

Witnessing young women go through the most difficult decision of their lives being harassed in the most vile way by those that pretended to have the moral high ground of religion gave me an insight into something that I admit as a man, I would never have to experience directly. For many years afterwards, reproductive rights, bodily autonomy and gender equality, which is all intertwined, become one of the most important political issues to me and I've been a member of Planned Parenthood ever since. That experience, along with several others, is also what gradually drew me away from deism to agnosticism to atheism and admittedly at times, having an automatically hostile response to what I see as the hypocrisy of organized religion.

So I too find it unfortunate that in this instance, the power of money overcame the power of principal and how much of her fake conversion was used by groups and lawmakers as "proof" and justification to suppress choice. It does feel like betrayal, even if given in our sometimes often unprincipled society, it's not unexpected.

That makes you pro choice and you chose to carry life.
I am pro choice and I carried life. Raised it, too.
We know someone who would be so thrilled to carry life and she’s pro choice.

I live my life by the Torah and Bible, that which you call Old Testament.
Toss in some Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, and some points I picked up around hare Krsna peeps, and dead heads, and there ya are.

The term "pro life" to me has always been a dog whistle.

If you talk to a pro-lifer at this very moment and tell them to wear a mask they will cough in your face and say "it's my body, and I'm free to do what I want with it."

Because we don’t have a “standing ovation” button.

funny how they competed pro choice language. Maybe they will get it, one day.

I'm as pro-baby as they come, but OR and their ilk are just pieces of shit with some Jesus sauce trying to pass as Christian. I have zero trouble believing they paid McCorvey to recant.
I also don’t doubt she did it mainly in conversion frenzy and then because it was a modest living. She’s always had to scheme to get by.

Very interesting story. Very illustrative of how intersectionality and privilege can dismantle or mitigate valid and helpful movements, even more so than their respective oppositions.
It really highlights the repeated flaw of relying on one half of the status quo(arguably the weaker half) to be the ones to attack issues that inordinately affect those outside the status quo on a much more fundamental and unchecked fashion.

I am pro choice. I do not fucking apologize. At. All. Reproductive health is health. Physical, and mental. AND mental.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw this, and felt so conflicted, was gonna start a thread but just couldn't without getting a bit emotional.

I'm mad at her for taking the money. Forgive, I have to. But the anger is still present at the moment.
Agreed. I'm much more bothered by somebody accepting dirty money in exchange for lying to everyone in the world right up until her death bed than I would ever be by somebody having an a different view on abortion than me.

Underneath a landmark court case that still divides the nation however many years on... was an effectively single confused, abused woman with 2 kids she already couldn't look after who desperately wanted not to have another. And her problems clearly didn't finish with the abortion.

Who can honestly say what that would have done "the right thing" in her shoes.

And she was forced to carry her third unwanted pregnancy, the pregnancy relevant to Roe vs Wade , to term. :(

Yeah. I've made plenty of mistakes because of decisions which were made for me.

That's a huge part of where my forgiveness came from
