Racism

Ok, I'd like to add an example.
In Simbabwe white farmers were killed just because they were white. In South Africa over 600 white farmers were killed just because they were white. Even leaders of Mandela's ANC used the slogan "Kill the Boers, kill the farmers" for a long time.
In Namibia white farmers had to pay way higher taxes than black farmers with the intention to get rid of the whites.

And NOW you come and tell me that this is no racism?
Especially in Namibia the situation did fit the definition of institutional racism quite well.

As the result of the same thing being done to them for years. The worm hath turned... No it is not right, no matter who does it. Yes, in this case because they have the power they ARE racist.

Of course this was a reaction, no doubt about it. So at least we agree that not only white can be racist. The rest is just subjective opinion. You think of institutional racism as "the" racism, I define racism as every action taken because of race or colour, may it be insults or physical crime.
To quote you: peace!

Exactly! Now we understand each other.

For anyone interested i will be starting a Cracker Social Group. You must show proof, eat pigs feet and have a signed picture of Roy Clark with cheese stains on it.

I've lived in Hong kong for twenty years now, and find the Chinese to be quite rascist, especially towards other Asians, China itself is very xenophobic!!!

DAMN. I don't eat trotters or eavesdroppahs. I don't have a Roy Clark cheese platter either.

All I have is a Merle Haggard CD with a cracked CD case. And a lot of Rodney Atkins butt shots in my hard drive.

Naughty, you were talking about what Hickboy's intent was with this thread. Let's hear what the fellow himself had to say!

Post # 32 in this thread, FYI--

Just so you know, I couldn't care less what your opinion of me is.

I'm sure you don't care about my opinion of you, but here it goes. Most of your threads are troll-like, and I get that your intention is to be goofy or offbeat. If a new member posted the same thing they would quickly be banned. Someone told me that they thought your posts were funny, but I don't see it.

[Hickboy] You are correct.

My personal reading of this is that Hickboy likes controversy, any controversy, and enjoys seeing you and Tripod and Gillette and Pitbull squabbling.
Maybe. You could also interpret my relative silence since I started this thread in these ways:

  1. I believe this to be THE issue in my country. It's the one thing that's been swept deepest under the rug, but there is nothing more important than true equality. My country, for all its successes, remains a failure in the areas of equality and justice. BTW, it's OK for me to say that. I don't want to hear it from people in other countries because it's none of your fucking business. You'll get a bunch of fives just for agreeing with me on this.
  2. I am genuinely interested in what others have to say. I am especially interested in hearing the thoughts of people from cultures other than the straight, white, Southern, Protestant Christian one I grew up in.
  3. I am capable of listening to an opposing viewpoint and entertaining it along with my own ideas. Sometimes my own shit doesn't stack with what I'm hearing and it has to go. That's where I learn my best lessons.
  4. I feel no need to hurry to be heard when somebody else has an opinion I don't share. Shouting other people down is for the fucking Democrats and Republicans. I'm neither.
  5. I am on the make for people who have a genuine regard for ideas and each other. I'm on the prowl for civility. That's why I began the thread with doubts about whether such a debate would go anywhere in this forum. For the most part, I was right. The discussion has gone nowhere.
What I see more than anything else in this thread is a lot of people who are probably smart and know it, but they believe their intelligence has given their ideas some sort of superiority over others'. I know plenty of smart people who arrive at conclusions that just don't work. It isn't for me to tell them what will or won't work in their own lives.

Communication requires a sender AND a receiver. Many of those who have contributed to this thread don't get that - they believe that the ability to express themselves eloquently and speak at length makes them good communicators. That's only half of the process. One has to listen, and for me it works better when I listen with my heart and not my ears.

This is a controversial topic, and I can't think of a more important one. I've plenty to say about it, and could go on to the point of monopolizing the discussion. Believe what you want about me, but dominance ain't my thing.

It's because she can't see color. I don't think she could see the Wheat Thin if it was held off to the side, either.

Maybe you are unaware of Ms. Duncan's vision problem.

From Wikipedia:

In the fall of 1971, during her first season of the television series Funny Face, she was treated for a tumor behind her left eye, which damaged the optic nerve.
She lost sight in the eye, but is still able to move it normally.

Proof that Sandy Duncan is black. Look at her sons with the hip hop gear...and the words "intelligent CRKRS?" coming out the mouf of one of her sons.

Not sure.
Didn't think it was a reference that many would get.

I can eat my way out!

I just purchased a large box this evening and was eating them just a few minutes ago.
Coincidence or ........

....We need to each check ourselves and think how am I contributing to the problem rather than covering it over with a coat of dismissiveness. Because we refuse to see it, doesnt mean it isnt there.

...I don't believe we are saying by any means that there are not black people who don't misuse the system to their advantage. There are many who do and I feel they do everyone a disservice. But traditionally on a wide scale in the U.S. the effects of centuries of inequity can still be felt.

Indeed.
