Being catfished can be crushing.....

It is unfortunate that these type of folks prey upon people. That is what they are predators. Perhaps not in the traditional sense that we think of predators. But they are out to take your dignity, your self esteem, to humiliate, and yes sometimes for monetary gain. Predators.....

But like other people said, you should verifiy this person on cam, I never really trust other if I dont see them on cam, and for me its pretty easy to see if its a fake cam or not.

But after that, she can stilll lie to you about her life, like she can pretends to be the daughter of the president (hehe) and you cant see if some informations about her life is real until you encounter this person

I made plans to go visit my catfish, though I didn't know it at the time, for valentine's day and looking back it seemed like the person kind of enjoyed screwing with me after "she" rejected me.

first: you can protect yourself from the catfish. How? Cam.. face to face. Some people will make every excuse not to cam. So try this: "Ok, then I need you to take a picture of yourself with a piece of paper that has MY name on it.. so I know that you are who / what you say you are" Anyone offended by that statement is not worth your time. I've learned the hard way myself. Catfishers will do and say everything to get you to believe they are who/what they say they are... everything EXCEPT proving themselves. It's frustrating but a def learning experience.

second: It is never a good idea to meet up in person with someone you have talked with online and not received verification that the person is who they say they are.

third: if you are talking with someone online that you have not verified as being who/what they say they are, protect the information you share with them. Don't let your emotions get involved in an invisible person. (that's just really common sense.)

Why do they do it? Many reasons:
Boredom with their life... they are looking for something different /exciting
Insecurities (they never have any intentions of revealing their true self b/c no one would ever like who they really are... at least that is their opinion of themselves. So they create lovely fake identities to live out their fantasies.
Curiosity - just to see what all the fuss is about
It takes a really warped mind to want to try to catfish someone else, IMO. I can't imagine going to all the trouble to create a fake account with fake pictures, etc. "just or fun".... I think these people are really truly sick.

But you don't have to fall for it.

This all happened a very long time ago so I am already aware of what you mentioned. This thread isn't so much about my story as it is more about catfish in general, like the fake profile I exposed the other day that I linked on the original post.

So these two guys who work together are both talking to this hot young blonde chick, they met on a Online Gambling regular looking, insecure guys, one tries to Catfish her at first by posting his photo from when he was 18 in the Marines, but eventually comes clean as a 45 year old man, she's still into both of them, which is always a red flag. Eventually she turns them against each other, mocking the 45 year old Marine, to the point he murders the young guy. Turns out the Tall Hot Blonde was actually the mother of the girl in the photos, going so far as to take pics of her daughter's butt in bikinis or panties! She never got charged with anything, and her ex husband says she still spends a LOT of time on the computer, with deleted history. Insane.

I mean, I'm sure it is a VERY rare thing for some smoking hot chick, for example, who has guys falling all over her in real life, to fall for some regular looking dude on a chat forum just because "Oh, you're so sweet!" Nobody is that charming online.

If you're at the point of having intimate conversations with somebody, feelings are getting involved, there is absolutely no reason why they wouldn't want to prove they are who they say they are. It's such an easy thing to do, like one person said, get them to take a photo holding a paper with your name on it. If they keep coming up with excuses, then there's your answer. Maybe some people like living in the fantasy too much.

I think the LPSG Verification Process is great. These Online Dating sites like Tinder should do the same thing. I guess they don't give a shit about fake profiles, the more the better for them, but if a site were to advertise 100% Guaranteed Profiles, I bet a LOT of folks would switch over to that.

The funniest is when two people are Catfishing each other and one finds out the other is fake and gets pissed off about it!

By the way, that Catfish movie felt really insincere to me, like Niev knew from the get go he was being lied to, but faked like he was falling for the girl and acted so shocked when he "found out", don't you guys think?

People can still photoshop the paper and write their own name, and personnaly I can't see if its shopped like that... you can check on the net there often the same photo with the same girl with a paper but always a different things writed on the paper

nah that's not what I'm saying... I want the person to write MY name... not theirs....

I actually did that once with a guy here who had pics of a definite very hung white guy in his profile but the pics looked "odd" so I asked him to do this for me (since he "didn't have a cam"...)

well, he did... and when he sent the pic.. the guy was a black man.. and admitted to me openly that he was underage. BANNED. (thank you very much.)

Well, when I was going through the photos on that profile I recognized one that I had seen on an online dating site from way back in early 2011/late 2010 lol. Also, the "girl" claimed she was from Boston but in one of her photos she has the California state flag hanging up in her bedroom.

The person that catfished me initiated contact with me on facebook. Had an entire profile based around this social media famous girl, it was very realistic lol.

Sometimes I worry bout underage posters on here, like if that counts as having child porn on your computer
