Congrats Germany - easy win well deserved
Think if England were going to be any good they should have shown it from the first game

I always thought if the puck (in hockey) touches the line, it's a goal....and the same with soccer. In the NFL, the only thing that is required is for the very tip of the ball to break the plane...in other words, all one needs for a touchdown is to have the ball touch the end zone line.

But would it?

The mentality of the players could (i say could) have been affected detrimentally. Coming back to a second half where they are losing is not so good as coming back where you are winning. Germany's confidence raised, England's opposite.

If they had started the second half 2-2 as it rightfully should have been, the outcome may have been different.

(probably not, considering Germany played very well, but who knows exactly how much psychology plays a part in sporting success?)

I think the ball has to go over the line to be counted as a goal in footie.

I agree with the calls for including technology in footie these days. Definitely would help clear things up when obviously bad decisions occur (and for disputed ones). Tennis is automated - so why not football?

Germany did deserve to win tho. But grrrr. :mad:

I hope the robbing of goals from USA and England will influence FIFA to update the goal technology. Meanwhile, I still have Slovakia and Brazil to support. :240::banana: :dance::tongue:

Well done to Germany...Absolutely knew they would win! Our team were their usual crap self when confronted with a good side..CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK!!!.....Another four years wasted, to go with all the other lots of four years since 1966!!
 
Argentina v Germany looks like a great game, potentially (Sat afternoon?).

that is correct it has to be past the line with the full diameter, if even 1" of the ball is actually over the line it is not a valid goal, however in this case it clearly was a goal.
 
I think it is quite a mistake to discount spain, they to me have the best team in this competition. They got a tough match against Portugal, but i have them listed as my top pick. Followed by Brazil, Germany, Argentina and the Netherlands. In that order..

The funny thing is that robbing the US of goals ultimately had no bearing on their final placement, while England were so comprehensively beaten that even the British tabloids concede the legitimacy of the defeat.

The context of the game may have changed at 2-2, but I don't think Germany's strategy as described by Loew after the game would have been terribly different (let England have the ball, and capitalize on mistakes caused by their inferior technique).

I picked Germany about ten pages back, and I would agree with your list and I expect at least one more upset before the semi finals. Germany will be the most consistent team, the others can have a bad day on the wrong day and that will then be that for them.
 
Now that my minnows' hopeful upset are out .. Slovakia
I would like to see .. if not for the final, then a clash between Maradonas Argentina (talk about Passion) and the Youthful Germany (who seem to have an abundance of fine players) best not leave out Brazil.
