Beer

Guinness isn't boring-ass beer -- it's far from boring, I love it too. My only problem with Guinness is that after around 2 or 3 of them, they get a little hard to put down, so I have to switch to something lighter. But I love it, especially in Ireland, where it's even better that it is over here.

After working in Dublin for two years on and off, I almost refuse to drink it anywhere else now. I don't know what the secret is, but it definitely tastes very different. Plus London bartenders can't pour it for shit and half of them put that stupid shamrock in the head that drives me fucking crazy. I'm not a tourist, I just want a pint.

Amstel's become a favourite of mine, but I'm pretty unfussy when it comes to lager. Just no American beers - can't stand the gassiness of 'em and I've not found one yet that doesn't have some weird metallic taste to it.

Of late I have been enjoying an old friend, Guinness Stout. It's just so good. Reading some of the previous replies, I hope to someday try the "real stuff", fresh from the tap in Ireland.

Gotta change my fave of the moment -- just tried my first Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale -- and I gotta say it won me over, better than the Torpedo Extra. It's better balanced, same killer hops flavor, but a bit more sweet malt with a touch of spice. A winner, glad I bought the 12 pack, on sale at Stop and Shop. Highly reccommended. Just came out, I guess, since it's a seasonal brew. Enjoy.

Never ever drink Guiness directly from a bottle! Something I learned from an Irishman. Anyway, Guiness is one of my favourite as well as two Belgian beers when I discovered them while I was living there. The two Belgian beer I like are the Westmalle Tripel (9.5% alcohol) and Kriek (cherry beer).

At the beginning, I had a hard time pronouncing "Kriek". I would say "creek" and people didn't understand me and so they thought maybe I want to go to "Quick", a popular burger joint in Belgium. The rolling "r" always gets to me. After living overthere for while I finally able to get it right.

I think it is time for a beer now...

OK, I'm embarrassed to have to report that I've changed my fave beer of the moment choice for the 2nd time in 3 or 4 days. Tonight's choice for best beer of the moment is Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale. Can't say enough good things about it.... it's simple a perfect brew.
