Yes...... I pray like everything depends on God and I act like it all depends on me. I strive to do God's will.......the rub is discerning what God's will is. My Catholic up bringing helps with this by suggesting one look at the lives of the saints....Christian, Hindu, Muslim......for inspiration and help. Yes institutional religion can make the journey more difficult because you'd expect it be more supportive and loving .........Jesus called out the religious leaders of his day called them hypocrites and brood of vipers all show no go! Thats what got Him nailed to the cross...especially after he threw the MONEY changers out of the temple...DON"T TOUCH THE MONEY!

I pray most every day. Usually for the souls in Purgatory, and for many of those in need still living. As well as other things. My faith is a big part of my life now. Wasn't always so. I went through a stint where I gave up on any organized religion. But it just didn't work for me. I found what one of the former popes said to be true, "He who dosen't have a prayer life risks going insane."

That twinge in your intestines
Since reading this post I have thought a wee bit about this....IF, just IF, prayers are answered, just saying, taking into account the laws of the Universe. For every good prayer that is answered, would not a negative also have to be created for balance? Just that life and the human body revolves around the positive and the negative, as much of everthing else as well. Just thinking...positive and negative thoughts to be balanced offcourse :)
Do they?

Your concept of 'good' and 'bad' may be wholly different from someone else's. Even when thing are 'in balance' for you, the same set of circumstances may be totally out of whack in someone else's estimation. In fact, I defy anybody to find a definition of a balanced universe that isn't totally subjective.

A prayer is a question of sorts, is it not? It is not a demand. My concept, and only mine, of good and bad, is positive and negative. What falls on which side of the line, I dunno. Spose the lines can be a little blurry when it comes to the prayers that are asked. In the end though, there has to be a balance. Where those reserves of balance are drawn from, who knows. It's either balance or imbalance. It will never be all good, nor will it be ever all bad.

....and I pray, oh my God do I pray!
I pray every single day for a revolution...

and
so i cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
just to get it all out what's in my head
and I I am feeling a little peculiar....

Actually I don't usually call it prayer, I think of it as talks with whatever is out there.

Actually I don't usually call it prayer, I think of it as talks with whatever is out there.
And sometimes it is so quiet
when I lay in my bed so tired at at night

I listen closely to my heart and mind
I hear their discussion of all mankind

Back and foward the argument rages
through all of time, throughout the ages

Yet it still does not stop us from asking the question,
Where did it begin, was there a resurrection?

Yet when the two, my heart and mind
agree on the answer for all our kind

I find the peace in the answer I've found
It makes the earth feel stable and sound.

Peace is found when the 2 agree.

My words :)

I'm pretty sure the OP didn't ask whether or not you believe that God exists. I would normally avoid that type of thread, and now I know to avoid this one.

You guys are so judgmental. I know to expect that someone will say something that irritates me, but who are you to judge someone as crazy or stupid for believing in something? It's called a faith for a reason. Get over your fucking selves.

Heyyyy people, how about you stop giving each other shit about religious beliefs (or lack thereof). That wasn't the topic of this thread. Just because you are or aren't doesn't mean you have to be a twat about people who are or aren't. Beyond that, I already said I don't pray, earlier in this thread

Wow! As a Catholic by upbringing and atheistic presently, I'm surprised at how offensive I find this comment.

Actually I'd find this offensive even were I Jewish or Hindu or of any other religious persuasion.

overkill. as a catholic, i'm a little offended.
Lol! Once a catholic, always a catholic.

yes i pray and i go to church i even sing in the choir
*high fives.

I pray, usually once a day for various reasons, not limited to those others have mentioned.
Sometimes there really is nothing you can do about a situation, and prayer helps for me.

Yes, I am a practising catholic. It's amazing how harsh people become when religion pops up.
The stories, misinformed banter, and general bashing is not appreciated, and certainly not indicative of most people's experiences of religion.
Yes, some religious institutions are making Christianity seem like a way to make money, but that's one thing the Catholic church cannot be accused of.

PS: Hungjon, if you're so dissatisfied with the catholic church why don't you become pope and change it, otherwise I'd appreciate it if you kept your disgruntled opinions to yourself and stop tarnishing other peoples positive experiences of religion.

I think this is true to some degree and not regrettable either. Despite the fact that I cannot rationalize the teachings of Catholism or most religions for that matter, I have known many good Catholics and Priests that do not deserve the hate that is leveled against them. Curiously, the vitriol often leveled at Catholics would not be tolerated against many other groups - even within this board. So be it. The Catholic history has at least as much to admire as it does to condemn. In that it is not unlike any great body and despite my personal issues with both its teachings and administration, I don't have a problem identifying as Catholic - even if they would no longer want me.

By the way, to keep somewhat relevant to the OP, no I don't pray any longer.

 It's possible to have discussions about prayer, religion, etc without stepping on other people's beliefs. That's my way of being judgmental. Stop being twats about other people's faith (or lack thereof)
