At my gym locker room, I got into a long conversation with a guy in his fifties, while both of us were naked. We were standing in front of a large mirror, which made it easy to eye each other's equipment without appearing to do so. A third naked guy came out the his shower and joined us, offering his evaluations of local gyms. Because we met in the middle of the room, far from our lockers and clothes, we only had our towels. I loved it.
Men need to be naked around other naked men and do guy talk. This is essential to male mental health. If the locker room were coed, this conversation would never have happened. (Mind you, I like being naked in front of women; but my two male companions probably would hate it, as both sported somewhat small penises.) No one ever covered his cock with his towel, for at some subconscious level we understood that being fully naked was part of the dynamic, unarmed, exposed, and vulnerable—all of this made instant male bonding possible. For a man's mental well being, he needs to naked with other men, no women, talking guy stuff, such as airplanes, cars, guns, women.... The encyclopedia Britannica informs us:

The history of the gymnasium dates back to ancient Greece, where the literal meaning of the Greek word gymnasion was “school for naked exercise.” The gymnasiums were of great significance to the ancient Greeks, and every important city had at least one.
