It's much too long to be a katana, the only thing I could think of to call it would be a nodachi. And a big one at that. I always found it interesting that Sephiroth has the Masamune while Cloud can get the Murasame. Since the Masamune is the more pure and holy of the two, which is why many games and legends say his swords are better. So Cloud has the inferior, more impure weapon, while Sephiroth gets the sword named after the greatest swordsmith of Japan, and he wanted to destroy everyone. So it makes me wonder about his intentions, if they considered them evil, or were the people evil, etc. In fact, the Murasame blades are known for being evil and blood thirsty.

This is of course because Mursame's blades were actually used and made for combat, while Masamune made swords for shrines and rituals.

I think the reason Aerith' death is so facinating to a lot of fans of FF and RPG games in general is that it was perhaps the first time that we have all become so emotionally invested in these characters in a video game that her death became such a gut wrenching moment for us to watch and I, for one, was also shocked at how random and how left of field it was. I mean, I expected her to confront Sephiroth at the Forgotten Capital in order to help save the planet from Meteor, but I did not at all expect her to end up impailed on a katana blade and then laid to rest at the bottom of the lake.

All that time you spend trying to get her super cool and super cheep limit break then it all gets flushed down the drain when she sinks to the bottom of the lake. O and i totally agree about her confronting Sephiroth i thought that she was going to have some sort of one on one battle using the white materia or something like that but nope.

Oh, I get it now...

Maybe I didn't feel the moment because I have a tendency not to form emotional attachments to most people  I might like a person, but if they die, too bad, methinks

The only scene in the FF series which I found rather memorable was from KHII, at the ending.

Call me a sap, but there you have it :)

It was very sad because Aeris had gone from being quiet and weak to brave and powerful. I thought the part where Cloud is dreaming and sees Aeris in the Ancient Forest was very sweet.

I know people who cried when Aeris died. I didn't but it was very sad. I remember it being cool how instead of the Jenova battle music, Aeris' theme continued which kept you in that 'moment' and really made me want to kill Jenova.

Dude, you don't know how many times I saw that ending. Especially, how sora n riku blocked all those attacks? And lets not forget the opening sequence and the song Sanctuary.

I've never played KH unfortunately. Was only joking w/Auto btw - I'm a bigger sap than anyone - was well gutted when Aeris died - and I got very attached to the FF7 characters. :p

My little sis loves the bit where Cloud and Tifa are sitting on that thing in the middle of Nibelheim, underneath the stars.

If it's a nice night, she'll put it on and open our curtains and do the same thing, lol.

Hahaha, no need to apologize - I know I'm sentimental at times

The Tifa/Cloud scene in Nibelheim was always something very meaningful, if you ask me. I see it as a scene that shows the innocence of a young person who wants to achieve something in life, but does not know what doing so might result in.

The only characters I've really felt a kinship for are the Nobodies of Organization XIII  Demyx and Zexion, to be specific :biggrin1:

@Sexycock777 - I get your point. Thanks for reminding me how nice the scene's music was

That's dedication lol. That's one of the 'slow bits' for me, like the flashback and Kalm and the part where you're in the Lifestream. I just want to get to the boss battles

Might have to start a new game...

Couldn't really be doing with the lifestream bit either, lol.

The various FF tunes have sunk themselves into me family's consciousness I think, lol. Also, me Dad still goes round singing tunes from Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES) and Mario64 that we haven't played for ages, haha. :p

Aeris' death was significant only because it was permanent. It was the first time, really, that players had to accept the full-time loss of a party member.

Oh sure, you had Galuf in FFV -- but 99% of FFVII players haven't played that game.

And yes, there was also Palom and Porom in FFIV, but they were revived, even if only in the ending credits. [Plus I'd argue that we didn't care about them to the point that we may have actually been happy that they petrified themselves]

And OK, Crono got himself killed too but, again, he's revived and all's well that ends well.

I'm hard pressed to think of another game, prior to FFVII, that took one of the main characters away for good (Fire Emblem maybe? One of the Saga games?) and even if there was one or two they didn't reach more than a fraction of the FFVII audience and so Aeris' loss was a 'first.'

No, Aeris brought death and it's sting closer to home, to the real-world. This is why so many feel so strongly about her character and the game in particular. At the same time I feel this is what made Sephiroth so popular: he had this kind of 'power' over the characters and their fate that legitimized him as a cold-blooded murderer in a way that no previous villain displayed.

Some of the music in the series is indeed awesome. Heck, I keep some of the soundtracks in my computer for random playing

Just stuff like the themes for FFVII/FFIX/KH/KHII, and also some in-game themes like the Mako Reactor and Shinra's song.

Sanctuary is pretty cool, but i do love Simple and Clean. I especially love the lush orchesrated version/Hikari that they play at the beginning when the small poem comes on the screen.

"Thinking of you, wherever you are.
We pray for our sorrows to end,
and hope that our hearts will blend.
Now I will step forward to realize this wish.
And who knows:
starting a new journey may not so hard
or maybe it has already begun.
There are many worlds,
but they share the same sky-
one sky, one destiny."

ooh, found the vid. i love this version. YouTube - Kingdom Hearts Soundtrack- Hikari Orchestra Instrumental

@joll - Thanks, dude. I guess this is one of those little threads that runs away after a while

Try going to this website:

ffextreme.com

It has MIDI/MP3 file downloads for EVERY soundtrack in EVERY FF game ever made, I think. And it's all FREE

Note - most of the vocal soundtracks are in Japanese, though, since the files are from the Original Game Soundtrack CD's.

I'll be starting FFX after my A-Levels equivalency at the end of this year - exams suck big time, man!

Then it'll be gaming from 8-to-5 for me. And I mean from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m., that is :biggrin1:

That's how I finished FFVII in a week. Same with KHII

You'll have to sniff around the site a bit - click on the game title, then on Soundtracks.

Acually... Being so young and still in college... I am an AVID ff player

FF7 = Genius.... But FF8 is my absolute favorite... Its just something about the way it ends... it keeps you guessing about EVERYTHING! and you never actually figure out who ultimeca is... since she is a kickass future sorceress....

FF10 was pretty good... FF10-2... Idk what happened... But FF is definatally the best franchise along w/ Chrono Cross. Anyone ever played it?
