It 's a bitch, isn't it?

I usually call my s/o "my guy" or my "fiance" (we've been on the brink of marriage for almost 7 years).

I put the question to a few online thesauruses, and compiled the following list.... ( excuse me for not taking out the feminine gender items)

And after seeing the list, I'll probably use "sweetheart" more often, because, well, there's just such a sweetness to it -- and it implies a lovie-dovieness that reflects well on both partners in a LTR.

LOL... good choice.

The list seems deficient though.

We need NEW words...

-- toyfriend
-- stigmatized other
-- fettered friend

Aaaaaaa! I could be at it all day. I'd better get to work!

"Beau" has a nice ring. I've been using "partner" but I think a few people assumed I had a girlfriend. :biggrin1: I don't particularly like "boyfriend". My love is almost half my age but has the intelligence, compassion, and wisdom of someone twice his age so I don't think of him as a boy. "Paramour" sounds nice but means illicit love which doesn't apply here.

Hmm. Maybe "beau" or "love". I'll throw those around and see how I feel.

Edit: Said beau just suggested I call him my "fuckpig". Discuss amoungst yourselves.

I loathe the term 'other half' as it implies that I'm only half a person without them.
If I'm seeing someone, then I refer to them by their name. I dont see why we need to label them or indeed, pigeonhole the specific type of relationship we might have with that person.
If someone else enquires as to the nature of the relationship, I simply say I'm 'seeing' that person.
If pushed, I suppose I might describe that person as my 'intimate friend'...
Oh, just to add, on another website, partners/SO's are refered to as 'the current Mr or Mrs followed by the persons website handle ~ ie. 'the current Mr Aitch'.

Love it! The current Mr Mercurialbliss has a great sense of humour even if he doesn't have a specific title...
