Even Tyler Downs has yet to come out officially as gay, even though everyone knows he is. There's a lot of societal pressure on men to stay closeted, especially in sports. That hasn't changed. Most of these guys come from small Midwestern towns. Even most male figure skaters are not openly gay.

The one competitive diver I talk to estimates that 65% of male divers are gay.

Well perhaps they're right about that. I can't say who is or isn't closeted. IDK. I was just speaking to the perception I guess, most of them are not openly gay then.
