I think you make a good case, but you're looking at specific examples of cultural artifacts that may or may not have any real bearing on the day-to-day lives of individuals. You can't really prove the case that all cultures are big penis obsessed in this way anymore than you can prove, say, that all cultures are obsessed with automobiles, just because there are cars in every country.
maybe...but is there any way you can really prove anything as objective as what you are asking?
There's PRESENCE and AWARENESS and maybe even CELEBRATION but what I'm talking about is the kind of obsession that causes issues of self-worth. Obsessiveness to the point of psychological and sociological damage, where a kid can see a porn star and come to believe that he himself is biologically flawed and less-worthy individual than the man with the big penis, even if he is average.
of course this can happen. any individual may be affected by any particular thing.
but unless you show me a whole society of men sitting around lamanting their self worth because of their pensis size your argument is purely academic.
I have a friend, to provide a counterexample, who's living in a semi-rural western section of India. I recently sent her
an old BBC story about how Indian men are too small for the international standards of condom production. She tells me that just from her experience, Indian men are smaller than Westerners, but they don't seem to care, or even notice. This is a culture, of course, where arranged marriage is the standard. The Kama Sutra notwithstanding, it doesn't sound (at least circumstantially) like their size matters to them in their daily lives.
I never suggested anything about individuals and their reactions to their penis size...you original post was in regard to cultures on a broad base and I responded based on cultures and what I knew of them. and you are painting with a broad brush here. how can you say how, say, and individual with a 3" erect penis is effected by it? and also, their size vs western men desn't really matter unless they are "competing" with them. I doubt that they are in constant contact with them in bars and gyms and all the other places men gather. personally speaking, I know I could care less if Sudanesse Tribal Leaders have cocks 15" long (other than a curiousness) unless they are sitting on a barstool next to me trying to pick up the hot lady accross from us! :tongue:
(Just for the record, Indian men are probably not naturally smaller. There are issues of nutrition here that probably factor in most heavily, especially in the region where my friend is.)
I agree with you on this, but might suggest it effects ALL body size, not just the penis. I would think the penis would be larger in proportion to the whole bodies increase in size if nutrition was bettered.
I am not rying to be rude or dismissive..just trying to argue my point.
