If you want to play old games, download an emulator (free) and play them.

I have emulators for GBA, N64, Playstation and SNES. You can download games for free too. Legally, you must own the original game for it to be legal but there's no way anyone can enforce that law.
I have a shitload of ROMs still, so I just got the Retro Duo ($40!!) which plays both NES and SNES games. Half of my games were stolen, but I still have a good 50 old ROMs for some good games, including the first FF. I may have to dust that one off, eventually. . .

I didn't like the place names in FFXII, they were too wordy and old fashioned. The place names in FF7 were fantastic. Midgar - home of the gods, Nibelheim - the gateway to Hell.
Meh, I prefer Ivalice. The developers at least tried to invent their own lore (mostly), instead of using other cultures' mythos.

IMO, KH 1 is better than KH 2 if only for replay value in terms of having more places to visit, more secrets to unlock and basically more moves and variants of limit breaks to unlock. Plus, although the story is simple, it is still deep and complex enough of a plot for those who care to look deeper into it although marketed as a kids game more so than say the Final Fantasy games.

KH 2 was such a disappointment in a way because it sort of failed to deliver a good solid game like part one, and a lot of it was bordering on tedious as Sora was not even in it for the first half basically and not many people liked Roxas or Namine as, at least with the first release before the extended cut was released aka KH 2 Final Mix, and so many wrote it off. Graphically it was great, but to me came off as too linear and easier than the first game. Honestly, I thought they rushed some parts and over stayed their welcome in others and it still boggles my mind that part two took nearly four years to complete and the end product felt so bare bones by the end of it.

I thought this way too at first, back in 2006. I didn't touch my KHII again until 2008.

Then, I decided to give the poor game a chance, and tried to imagine what it would be like to have played it the way I would have without any knowledge of its predecessor

It turned out quite well - Roxas became a decent character, and the story became rather improved when I viewed it through that point of view :biggrin1:

The linearity of the game was something also prevalent - to a lesser degree - in KHI, though. But the part that seemed cheesy to me was the *SPOILERS* repeating world visits. The worlds didn't change during the second visit, and I think you'd agree with me when I say that changing the map during the second visit might have been better (maybe linking up with the map from the first visit?)

AVG - cheers dude. Yeh. I see what you mean - I guess that was the time when I did the most gaming - in me early 20s.

Like SuperMarioWorld, DKCountry2 and F-Zero on SNES slightly earlier (and Manic Minor/Jet Set Willy/ATV on ZX Spectrum MUCH earlier lol).

Spent quite a lot of time on MarioKart64 and Mario64 a couple of years after the PS1, liked them but not to the same extent. Loved MarioKart Doubledash too, and Sunshine on Gamecube.

Still a big fan of Tomb Raider and Gran Turismo, though (fave franchises really) on PS2 and 3. Latest fave is Mirror's Edge - absolutely brilliant. Fun and fast-paced, plus very different in feel to things I've played before. Graphics slightly reminiscent of SSX, tbh.

I do think people's favourites are relevant - even if you don't rememeber everything, and it's very subjective - kind of gives a clue to to the sort of things people are into, and have spent time playing.

FF7 is still the game I've most enjoyed, to date...and a brilliant achievement imo.

PS: On a slightly different note, they say 'eveyone has got at least one book in them' or the potential to write one/come up with the ideas for one. Wonder if it's also true to say everyone's got one game in them?...Quite often thought of ideas over the years I think would be good (they actually weren't, but nm :p).

All you need to know is that Zelda: TooT is the best adventure game of all time; some place it as the best game of all time, and it's hard to argue against them. It's the FFVII of Zelda games, if not of adventure games as a whole.

Other than that, you should know that the Zelda series is almost entirely unrelated to one-another, much like the Final Fantasys.

Either way, I'd recommend watching this retrospective if you want a quick taste (esp. part 6, which covers the "timeline", as it were):

I'm curious to know this - you know that section in FF 7 where Cloud goes undercover at that brothel in the slum area, and you have to collect all the items there to help you pass as a call girl to get into the Don's hideout to rescue Aeris or Tifa I think ? Well, did any of you manage to unlock the part where the wrestlers come in and ' massage you ' and then a whole lot of them come into the room at once ?

Yeah, I did my first play through. Very suprising they put such obviously homoerotic subtext in a game.

When I first played it and unlocked it I too was rather shocked and surprised how blatantly gay and over the top it was, so much so I keep wondering how and why it was never talked about or scandalized in the media or other video game forums as a result. It was a rather nice and unique thing to put into a game even if not really a part of the main game itself, much like being able to kiss male students in the video game Bully.

Yeah, I was 11 when I got ff7. You know there is a rpg series called 'Persona' that centers around high school kids saving the world from demons/shadows, and always takes place in Japan.

Cont. Anyway in the most recent one Persona 4, Kids get put in an alternate world via TV set based on their deepest fears desires, and anger, and looks like a weird midnight tv show in the real world.

Cont. A kid named Kanji gets kidnapped and put in the world, where you learn he isnt a bully like many think, and may learn something shocking about him. Go to utube type kanjis shadow:reject.

It was done very well, and was years ahead of its time

I agree with the book thing... I love to write, and also to get on a video game, since these two activities are just so effective for escaping from all the daily crap now and then

Maybe it is lol - it's just the first time I'd played anything like that - so the comparison to other games, and the immersiveness blew me away.

People probably remember how they felt about it at the time - maybe it wouldn't be quite as good if played now...
