We've noticed.

and i'm sure you can read my posts just fine, you seem to have done so thus far without complication. if periods and capitals are so important i suggest putting me on ignore because i'm a lazy typer, atleast when it comes to a support group for big penises.

When I read some of the statistics for youth crime, drop-out rates, etc.. I wonder where the parents are. Obviously some kids are out of control, but here's a story about a father who was jailed because his daughter didn't earn her diploma equivalent. In this case, the girl wasn't living with her father so his imprisonment may not have been warranted. He was, however, ordered months prior to make sure she completes it. In general, it seems that some states are starting to hold parents accountable for their children's delinquency.

Dad jailed after daughter fails to get diploma - Crime & courts - MSNBC.com

I find the decision in this case abhorrent. The father was sentenced to 180 days in jail for his 18 year daughter's actions. Unbelievable. And all of these people or stars who do drugs, get in automobile accidents, drive drunk and everything else spend 2 days in jail???

Not to mention that mother who the daughter lives with wasn't punished nor the daughter herself. I'm all for parental responsibility but I'm also for reasonableness with the courts. Why not sentence the father and daughter to community service, if you have to go to these lengths?

This case is shameful and I hope he appeals. There is nothing to applaud here. If this is the best response we have to these issues, then we have failed in a variety of ways.

just about everybody in this thread has said that the father is innocent. i don't think anyone's agreed that he should've been jailed.

this isn't english class or the ny times, it's a website about big penises. no offense but when i post here theruled of the english language aren't the first thing on my mind.

My point is this: if you want to change perceptions or help mold opinion, it helps to lead by example.

You do your cause and argument no favors when decrying the lack of educational standards while flouting them yourself.

No matter how intelligent you may appear, you undercut yourself buy ignoring the rules of writing proper English...and toning down the hyperbolic emotionalism helps, too. A appeal to reason propagated within emotional diatribes and lazy typing habits seems, well, hollow.

i don't undercut myself, those who judge my writing style on a porn site do if they judge me by trivial things that don't matter here. many members enjoy my posts and do so without strict adherence to rules of writing. as off-topic as this is, i can't help but laugh at it. when i'm at weddings, i wear tuxedos, when i'm at home i wear jeans and a t-shirt. i log onto this site with a level of comfort and my writing is casual. if i knew a somebody were going to grade this i'd worry about capitals and whatnot.

You seem to respect LPSG and its membership enough to feel comfortable expressing opinions and seeking respect for your point of view: why else continue what has been elsewhere described as "hyperposting"?

Why now decry the lack of importance and relevance of a place to which you devote so much time, energy and enthusiasm?

Look: I don't consider you a troll, just someone who types faster than he thinks. That can be fine when bullshitting with friends. But when discussing adult subjects with a group of adults (as an adult), what is the issue with appearing as adult as possible?

Your opinions are judged by many criteria, not least in terms of the style of their delivery. If you spoke unintelligibly, would I be expected to "interpret" your remarks in order to glean their real meaning?

And, yes...speaking unintelligibly and writing unintelligibly are the same thing when expressing your opinions in a written medium.

so i'm not allowed to discuss adult topics?? doesn't being 22 make an adult?? or since i'm young is there an age limit for the articles i can discuss??

My point was, and is, that when requesting the intelligent response of adults it behooves you to communicate in an intelligent and adult manner.

Is hitting the shift key really such a point of pride with you that you're willing to undercut your point? Or am I the only one (aside from Jason) who sees the irony in your highly charged call for better education while ignoring elementary grammatical rules?

i'm 22. i'm not in school. once again, posting on a penis support group site has NOTHING to do with the education system. i'm discussing the topic. if i were to converse with my friends about this in my living room, do i have to use perfect english? i know pronunciation, i know punctuation, if this were the SAT's i'd be happy to oblige, but it isn't. again, there are many members who pay more attention to my content than capitals and periods. the best i can tell you is, if it bothers you that much, skip over my posts. the fact that i post casually doesn't mean i'm not allowed to speak about certain topics, including education. few people use spot-on engish, many people mispell words on this site. i don't think anyone's offended by it. what confuses me is why i'm not allowed to speak about education because i don't display here (again, on a penis site). if you were the governor of my state and i was writing a formal letter about the topic, i'd worry about periods and capitals. again, i'm in my bed, i'm wearing boxers, i'm comfortable. doesn't mean i can't talk about the education system.

Of course you are. Adults have standards when communicating with one another. You just have to keep up with the rest of them.
doesn't being 22 make an adult??
Legally yes, however your chronological age has nothing to do with acting as an adult.
or since i'm young is there an age limit for the articles i can discuss??
Not at all. There are people here younger than you who can hold their own with the adults on this forum. Take notice, follow their lead, and you'll do just fine.

Sorry Marley but Bbucko and Jason_els are right on the money. If you want to be taken seriously by the members of this site, pay more attention to your presentation.

there are plenty of people who take me seriously because they're looking at my words, not which ones should be capital and where periods are supposed to be. i simply don't understand this argument. some members want me to post less, so should i post less? how far does this 'pleasing other members go'? some people don't like dark-skinned guys so should i take my pics down. i really don't understand changing my casual writing to make somebody happy. one thing i've learned is every change you make to turn one person on, turns another person off.

i write the way i write, many members of this site PM me with agreements and compliments. i should note that there are many threads about fondling guys in their sleep, taking advantage of drunk people, incestuous behavior and videos of rape. they often use correct punctuation and capitals so maybe you should check those threads out since all that matters is grammatics. i actually had a thread of people telling me not to change a damn thing so i'm doing something right.

i don't undercut myself, those who judge my writing style on a porn site do if they judge me by trivial things that don't matter here.

I don't understand your consistent citation of LPSG as a "porn" site in order to defend the presentation of your writing. First, LPSG is not a porn site, it's a support group for people with large penises and for people who interested in large penises. You seem to infer that because you judge this as a "porn" site the standards are less here and that is, to degree both insulting and condescending to the people who participate in these forums. There is a bit of hypocrisy as well, because if the fact that you consider this a "porn" site and unworthy of general rules of behavior and communication, then why use this as a forum to discuss serious issues?

Second, I believe you stated that you write the way you do because you're lazy, although you know the rules of proper spelling. I'm surprised by that admission. How much energy is involved in a capitalizing the first letter of a sentence, punctuating correctly and using the space bar? How can you chastise the educational system and others when you flaunt the conventions of good writing? Moreover, all you're doing is reinforcing bad habits for yourself. If you stick with proper writing than it becomes so second nature, it's not an extra expenditure of energy at all.

Third, presentation does matter. I like that you are contributing your thoughts to this forum and I think you have some valuable things to say, but I'll admit, I can't read all of your posts. They hurt my eyes. I also know the value of presentation. If you show up for a job interview in shorts (and it's an office job), you won't get the job. If you're writing resembles that of a 14yo on speed, then people are less likely to consider what you say or give you the time of day. And if you didn't want to be read, or understood, why contribute?

Fourth, I've seen your threads and your posts and it seems like you have high standards that you hold others to. Yet, it this regard you don't seem to hold yourself to a higher standard. You write defensively and your reply is, if you don't like it, don't read it. Fair enough but are you willing to follow your own advice? If you don't like what someone writes or someone shares, will you just ignore it instead of commenting? I've seen you judge a variety of groups and individuals, some deserving and some not. Perhaps you could consider turning some of that introspection inwards and challenging yourself to become better? There is value in growth and there is no shame in recognizing that there are better ways.

I actually believe you have a talent for writing but I feel like your talent is a bit wasted because the expression creates a barrier to engaging with your thoughts. And that to me is a greater shame.

oh my god do we need to start a new thread about this cuz the last page and a half is people bitching about capitals and periods, hulk i enjoy your threads but i didn't read a lick of the above post because i can imagine it's a book report on marley's grammatics. yes i realize there's an irony in my writing style vs. the subject matter here, but is it really that much of a disturbance? if you were having this conversation with a friend would you stop them at every mispronounced or incorrectly used word and say "hey, we're talking about education, you have to display yours perfectly". once again, i believe that with few exceptions, my words are all that are needed to orchestrate my point, anything beyond that is personal preference. for the last time, if it's that important, ignore me. just because you don't like the way i write or discredit what i say doesn't mean others do. obviously somebody's getting my point, you can't say they're not just because you don't. and if you do get what i'm saying, what's the big fucking deal? these aren't articles for the new york times i'm writing, they're not essays for college. i developed this style from my parents who went to church or company picnics and dressed up their linguistics, then came home and let their hair down and spoke with all the inflections associated with ebonics. i write the way i do because i don't think i'm talking to college professors and editorial managers, for the most part i'm talking to friends who don't care more about what i say than how i say it.

You shouldn't change your writing style to make people happy. You should reconsider how you present yourself when trying to introduce a specific topic. I didn't even read all the way through this thread until now. You posted this earlier:

and you think punishing this behavior is wrong?? it's gone on so long because it hasn't been punished. my generation is full of morons who can't spell their name because nobody wants to enforce the education our ancestors faught for. there's a reason diseases aren't being cured, even though centuries ago, with LESS technology and information, they were being cured. we're a nation of idiots that revels in the right to be idiots under the guise of "being free" and "being kids". at what age should we start expecting responsibility, 40? 50? 105?

You can't have it both ways, marley. You're rambling on about how parents aren't enforcing education and you speak as though you're one of said children. You look really foolish here. You've already mentioned how lazy of a typist you are. Fine with me but since you started a thread about the inadequate educational system, the lack of enforcement from parents, and admitted you're too lazy to even attempt to type correctly, you cannot expect to be taken seriously.

I'm glad you want to be exactly who you are, marley. I also think you're intelligent enough to understand the irony we all see here. Please give us a little credit. I'm trying to do the same for you.

I think the idea of jailing parents for their children's behavior is, at best, unenforceable. Let me tell you an anecdote.

My parents raised two children. One child was a straight-A student, scored perfect on part of the SATs, was accepted to college a year early, and got a hefty scholarship. The other child was in and out of trouble all the time, barely graduated high school, almost went to jail but escaped that by promising the judge to join the military. My parents did the same things with both children and nothing traumatic happened to one or the other. It was just that for some reason they came out very differently. This isn't uncommon.

Before punishing the parents, we need to make sure the US has a viable, accessible educational sysytem for all people-- after all, many parents of poorly educated children are poorly educated themselves. Part of that is convincing parents that education is important, and for many parents it's simply not. That, to me, is a failure of society. When the role models on TV are all Britney Spears and football players, it's no wonder that education isn't important to many people.

We also need to recognize that, as always, the onus of dealing with this will be placed on the teachers. When Johnny fails algebra for the fourth time, now the irate parent is really going to hit the roof because the teacher won't pass him.

Most parents try to be as responsible as they can, and many fail. In my mind, it's a personal failure, sure, but to put it all on the parents ignores our social and educational problems. Those, I think, need to be addressed first.

re: Marley and his posts... I find them unreadable myself because the punctuation, sentence structure, and lack of orderliness of thought make them impossible to read. The hyper-emotional accusatory flip-outs every time someone disagrees with him don't help either. In my mind, he's a victim of this poor education system we have in the US. Children are no longer taught critical thinking and reasoning, nor are they taught to write well-reasoned arguments and position pieces. But that's an entirely different subject.

that's a good point i haven't focused on is that the educational system in itself is a large failure. since it's funded by taxpayers, the rich are literally getting a better education for the most part.

poor people make poor wages and can only afford poor education. overcrowded classrooms, ancient textbooks. not to mention that schools in poor neighborhoods are susceptible to crime. not only do the kids receive less attention because there are 32 other students, they go home and have to worry about catching stray bullets from gang members. they can't get help with their homework because both parents are working late into the night.

i think that because of the context of the article, some people assume that i believe bad grades=bad parenting. this couldn't be further from the truth. i have as many grievances with the public education system as i do with parents (IE hiring bus drivers that have 2 or 3 dui's on their record and teachers that are REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS and not telling anybody so the school can save face). the school system is as much to blame and i only spoke about parenting because that's the angle of the article. it'd be blind and ridiculous to say that that's the only factor, but it was the topic for the article. needless to say the blame goes across the board if you want to talk about misguided youth. again, the only reason i spoke specifically about parenting is that was the angle of the article. it is still one that shouldn't be ignored, parents who are out shaking their asses at the club or pounding shots of whiskey while their kid is at home trying to learn how to read and write.

Fair enough if you don't want to consider what some of us have been saying to you Marley. Take note at least, that we respect you enough to be honest with you to try and share a perspective with you.

You would increase the value of your writing by expending a modicum of energy to improve your presentation and make what you are writing, clearer and easier to read for your audience.

The difference with your example of speaking to friends, is that this medium is visual, not aural. And if you were talking to friends about how bad the educational system is and how kids today have poor language skills and you used poor language skills to convey your argument, your friends would call you on it. And if they didn't, they should.
