This is so awesome. I read a post on Reddit and a guy said that many men complained about swimming naked. I don't buy it. Every older pic that I have seen, the guys look very relaxed. Men showered in communal showers naked. There was a no swimsuit policy because the old suit fibers got caught in the filter. Then, women had to wear clothing. It was then that things started to change...women ruined it for us lol

Came across this documentary series on Youtube about this once common practice. (Don't worry, nothing illegal in there.)

I remember being shocked as a kid when my dad told me his high school had nude swim classes until it went co-ed during his time here. Since then I've chatted with a lot of guys who've remembered their own experiences back then.

It's interesting because guys on sites like this tend to romanticize this kind of openness (myself included!), but some of the guys interviewed didn't have such fond memories. But it's such a 180 from where we are now, where guys won't even get fully naked in locker room showers.

yeah because we need modesty

you dont understand since you were told to strip dont question authority dont question anything
We were never told to strip. That happens in jail. We had to shower and wear jockstraps in 7th grade because we sweated during PE. The coach was never around us guys. I was probably the 2nd or 3rd guy to jump in the showers. I was tall and skinny. So I would have had reasons to be insecure, but I didn't give a f because my dad had taken us camping and we used the group showers. I had played sports, and we showered. Go ahead and challenge authority during a traffic stop if you want. But stop the BS about not showering or wearing your underwear to shower. If you are fearful, don't shower...but stop making those of us who want to be clean the odd ones.

when you told the coach I dont want too you were told you have too and told you were either gay or weird not too. Dude it wasnt about insecurity it was about modesty and tellingguys they were more dirty then girls. Girls never had to get butt naked in swim class only guys. the odd one out was the one wearing a swim suit to the pool. Plus the swim suits girls wore were much more dirty

Sorry, but my experience was different than your experience. Modesty? Men were dirty in a bad way? Dude, we sweated and smelled...you shower. If you were in PE or played a sport...you showered. I am old school and don't mind giving women privacy...but their showers were also open. So there goes your modesty belief. I get that some guys were insecure, but they got over it in five minutes. The military is the same. I don't mind if you don't want to shower with other guys, and it is due to insecurity. My dad took us camping at a young age, and we'd go to the Y. We'd shower, naked, with other guys. It was no big deal. And the same for my entire class. I love that guys used to swim naked in the old days. I wish that we had the same opportunity.

Love how Life magazine used to photograph naked back sides of men. Even Pat Boone was show rear view naked in an issue of Life..
Yes. I think I mentioned before here, but it seems that back then, men weren’t as sexualized as women were, or at least not the same way. Therefore, seeing nude men wasn’t really considered sexual or pornographic as long as it wasn’t explicit or suggestive. So publications would occasionally show Images of nude or semi-nude men, such as athletes, soldiers, or even actors, and it was viewed through the lens of strength, health, or heroism, not about being provocative.
