Racism

This is a case of why any reference to being anything other than human might be suspect...a voice from the past....

July 26,1922 " ... O' yes, we have black babies too, as you can see by this picture. These two happen to be just a couple of my special 'pets.' I just close my eyes & gasp every time one of them tries to put their arms around my neck. Still they are human & only babies after all & one can'...t help loving them. " Wade Day Nursery 2322 E. 22nd Street

"Pets" eh? Would you like another crumpet, pet? But we need to remind ourselves halfway through our interview that yes, the black ones are humans too even if they are cute little monkeys...:soapbox: Excellent example of my second point, naughty. That generation thought in those sorts of categories and we find their expressions of 'tolerance' offensive!

What's a homo sapiens to do?

I have doubts about whether this web site is an appropriate place to have a serious discussion about race matters. The biggest problem we have in discussing the Principessa ban is the lack of a common vocabulary. Cultural ignorance runs a close second. It really is different here in the US.

To me, based on my own experiences, racism equates to prejudices + the political/economic power to act upon those prejudices. The system that gives me privilege and economic clout as a white man is inherently racist. I've seen little change since I began to become aware of economic, political, and social imbalances over 40 years ago. Black people, in the USA, in 2010, are not capable of being racist. There is no person or group of people of color who can block me from having easier access to money, government services, education, or anything else. I have privileges that are granted to me automatically as a result of my status as a white person, privileges that are still difficult for a black, especially a black woman, to obtain.

What Principessa purportedly said was not racist. It might have been an indication of bigotry. Calling a white person a 'cracker' is a mild racial epithet, but mere use of bigoted language does not make a person a bigot. Bigotry is not racism is not prejudice. They're three different things. It's sloppy and imprecise to attempt to use all three terms to mean the same thing. They are not interchangeable.

What's your definition of racism?

My definition of racism: A systematic preference of one race over another race.

I agree with what Hick has said. There are mild forms of racial epithets as well as major offensive racial epithets. I feel like this: if a Caucasian I meet chooses to use "ni993r" or other forms of derogatory language in a taunting means to get an emotional rise out of me...I use the language against them when appropriate...or if it isn't appropriate, I don't give the reaction that they are seeking. Sometimes there are Caucasians that are illusive...they won't call you a "ni993r" to your face. They resort to character assassination. They will put you through the emotional ringer.

Aside from the ni993r word, there are other words like CNT and BTCH. Some women are offended by those words. I only use them affectionately or in a camp sense to some woman at the club or some dude at the club.
Examples: "Oh Virginia...you CNT...you shouldn't have bought me those three caipirinhas. BTCH on yo' birfday, I am buying you a bottle o' JACK and all the pad thai you can eat." or "Martin--that CNT-- got me plastered last night and I woke up with Virginia's husband, Phyllis in da Motel6 the next morning. He had the spent condom hangin' out my ass. It must've been good...my morning wood was bouncing along with the throbbing pulses of my prostate."

So, you are black?

I don't believe it, I think that you like using the "n word" and you being black is just a smokescreen against being accused of being racist on this board for your ease in using the "n word".

Prove me wrong and post a pic.

I don't think you are entitled to a picture to satisfy your ignorance.

I know because you disagree with me politically you might not believe me, but Gillette is black.
Further, she is honest.
So if she post something, you can believe it.

You may apologize to her now or wait until those who share your political world view start tapping your shoulder to inform you of your error.

""This was followed by another YOUNG man of American alleged Bi racial decent who expressed his feelings that it was unfortunate that his race was pointed out"

There's no requirement {at present} for any member to prove themself to any other for any reason. tripod in your confrontational post~~which is what it is when saying: "I think you just like using the "n word"...smokescreen....prove me wrong..." you merely add to the frustration people will have with this board. Additionally, Gillette put a disclaimer towards usage of the "n word". And let me ask you, if someone says "hey, I find being called Cracker offensive" would you be screaming for them to show their picture? Some find it offensive, some don't. If anyone does, and within context, then it becomes an offense and if it's being used towards skin color then it becomes a race issue and therefore racist.

Between your demand for a picture and naughty saying "alleged" about a person who says they're bi racial this place is heading further into the toilet by the hour.

Hey tripod, naughty and otheres who demand proof, I have some Jewish heritage, should I dig up the pictures of great grandfather at his bris? Should I get the picture of the Grand-Uncle at his bar mitzvah?

If you said the "k" word repeatedly, you should be prepared to back up your claims of having Jewish heritage.

If you didn't use the "k" word, I could care less if you are a Jew or not.

Does this make sense to you yet?

Black folk do NOT use the "n word" as flippantly in a public format like she did. That is a rule, but there are always exceptions to the rule...

but there was not ONE instance of her use of the actual "n word" that couldn't have been substituted with the "n word".

My momma taught me that it is NEVER okay to use the actual "n word" under ANY circumstance, not even when you are proving a point or having an intellectual argument.

You may apologize to her now or wait until those who share your political world view start tapping your shoulder to inform you of your error.

What the fuck does this have to do with politics? She offended the living shit out of me and should be apologizing to ME fool!

I just don't ever wanna hear the fucking word again especially in a public format.

Seriously, is that all you got?

I have seen a picture of Gillette and I can vouch that she is of mixed race.

:confused:I have no idea what this "K" word is:confused:.

Even if I knew, there's no reason I should have to provide a picture or series of pictures to prove who I am. I could link you to the imigration documentations for some Jewish members of my family~~courtesy of the Ellis Island Foundation, where they passed through back in 1913. Of course, it would be a link which would make it questionable for veracity. Pictures are worthless as well siince I could get them off the Internet, which leaves only an in person or webcam meeting. Do you plan to meet wiith everyone to verify their being who they say they are?

Oh I'm sure she'll get back to you on that gem of a request!

Xcuse put forth an idea of his own and got stomped! :bigeyes2:

Well I wouldn't go that far. Miss Naughty ain't capable of stomping. Just patronising. Apparently, because I disagree with the OP I'm just too thick to grasp what he means.

Oh FFS. Am I the only one who finds this pussyfooting around words utterly ridiculous? If you're offended by seeing these words in print then you really need to get out more. No, really!

You totally ignored the context of Gilette's post.
Her use of the "N" word was perfectly appropriate.
In fact there was no intent to direct the word at anyone.
The post would have been acceptable if made by a white person (maybe not to you).

If in a thread someone posts "It is wrong to call a black person a "N"." and they spelled the word out, what is the problem.
If it was a black person it would be OK
and not if it was a white person?
Maybe to someone who thinks they are the arbiter of Racial Correctness.

She used the word twice BTW in a rather lengthy post.

Isn't it time to make the donuts?

Just how Jewish are you? lol!!!! You just proved my point.
I have~~well had, since they're dead~~ a Jewish grandparent.

Send me a PM if you would since I am now curious about the word.

At the end of the day, I don't use any racial or ethnic words towards another because I don't know whether they'd be offended and I see no reason to risk causing them or someone else who happens to hear or read it, a bad time.

Google "Jewish K word"

I disagree with you politically, but why would that have anything to do with this situation?

Because in your vast ignorance you tend to dismiss anything I post, as you are doing here.

Black folk do NOT use the "n word" as flippantly in a public format like she did. That is a rule, but there are always exceptions to the rule...

Her use was not "flippant"
And you know what is acceptable for black people to do?

but there was not ONE instance of her use of the actual "n word" that couldn't have been substituted with the "n word".

So?
You found fault.
But not everyone agrees with you.
Some of us can read a sentence and comprehend the intent of the author.

My momma taught me that it is NEVER okay to use the actual "n word" under ANY circumstance, not even when you are proving a point or having an intellectual argument.

Did your momma teach you NEVER use the word FUCK and SHIT?
Do you have you the mental capacity to have an intellectual argument?

What the fuck does this have to do with politics? She offended the living shit out of me and should be apologizing to ME fool!

Three people have already told you that you are wrong about Gillette's racial heritage. You still owe an apology, FOOL.:mad:

I just don't ever wanna hear the fucking word again especially in a public format.
Then just lock your door and turn off your computer.

Just how Jewish are you? lol!!!! You just proved my point.
You have a point? He didn't prove anything about being or not being Jewish.

:confused:I have no idea what this "K" word is:confused:.

It's (fortunately) used less and less but I know the word he refers to.

I respond to this post and define the word and its definition only to illustrate unaccepatable words and how they are used to disempower people by means of diminishment. The level of impact on any particular race I cannot judge. Below is the "K" word.

kike

Main Entry: kike
Pronunciation: \ˈkīk\
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
Date: 1904
usually offensive : jew"

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Though the definition says "usually". I have never known a context in which that word was used in any other way but an offensive one.
