Hmm I think the way it seems to work is that very fem or flamboyant gay men will be assumed to be gay, statement or otherwise. Unless they are actively bearding with a woman, it's safe to assume they are not closeted or anything.The point was exactly the opposite.why some people (like Tyler) can be freely assumed gay and others - some barely that different from him - need a new Council of Nicaea or États généraux in order to be at least assumed bi on LPSG.
More 'straight-passing' queer guys will naturally have a lot more debate and silly arguing over if they are gay or not, and higher demands for "proof" like a statement or a grindr screenshot. Classic but predictable double standard.
If anyone can point me in the direction of his grindr profile please message me. I'd love to get more nudes out of him.

I mean, most gay people identify straight until they don't. Tom Daley was straight until he wasn't.
Even Tyler Downs has yet to come out officially as gay, even though everyone knows he is. There's a lot of societal pressure on men to stay closeted, especially in sports. That hasn't changed. Most of these guys come from small Midwestern towns. Even most male figure skaters are not openly gay.
The one competitive diver I talk to estimates that 65% of male divers are gay.
